GERMAN SHEPHERDS
IN OUR HEARTS FOREVER
KING
I remember dad bringing you through the front door, a tiny bundle of fluff inside his donkey
jacket back in 1974. I was 5 years old. All the kids in the street loved you, we were all so small
& you seemed so big. You were dad’s first Shepherd and after having you, there was only ever
one breed of dog for him. In 1979 we moved house, granddad died & I don’t know why but it all
seemed too much for you, we lost you that same year.
You came to me by accident and how glad I am, you did. You were my first Staffie & my
passion for this breed is all down to you. You
were so funny, you loved the car (as do all my
dogs), One day out on our travels, we’d stopped
at a set of traffic lights & you decided to jump out
of the window & run down the road, I had to just
abandon the car & run after you, lesson learned
though, I only “slightly” open the windows now!!
Another day, I let you out in the morning, we
lived in a flat then & didn’t have the luxury of a
garden, you were a good girl, never roamed –
usually!! After 2 hours of looking for you, I
decided to phone the police, and there you were,
at the police station, a nice gentlemen had taken
you in after you jumped in his car wanting to go
to work with him. We went through a lot together,
you and I. We had a wonderful 10 years together. We said our goodbyes in April 1995, and I
thank you for showing me what a lovely breed the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is.
REMY
MAX
We sadly lost Max in November 2005
So handsome, so graceful – a gentle giant. Mum bought you as a
surprise for dad. We got you at 9 weeks and it was a long drive
back for you, you were sick everywhere in the car!! We sneaked
you into the back garden at mums & told dad to come out. He was
over the moon, he’d finally got another Shepherd and you were
life long best friends. Dad adored you Max, you were his life.
Mum did years of schooling with you & you loved it. We never
got to say goodbye, you were taken down to Cambridge for
emergency investigation, when they opened you up you had a
massive tumour, the vets phoned and mum & dad decided it was
kinder not to wake you up but to let you go peacefully. At last you
and dad are now back together.
JESS
Jessie Baby – as daddy always called you. Losing you is still very raw. We picked
you out at 5 weeks old and bought you home at 8 weeks old. You were well
travelled Jess as we hated to leave you, planes, boats, trains, you came everywhere
with us, we put you in the kennels once but you were in a terrible state when we
picked you up so we never did that again. You were a devil puppy, into
everything, you didn’t give anyone any peace at all. You mellowed with age, you
loved the warm sun and hated the cold, rain and snow. You’d always be found
curled up inside the duvet, you were a lovely girl Jess. Mum & Dad babysat you
during the day for us. We said our goodbyes on 9 March 2007 and it broke our
hearts to let you go, we hope you had a very happy 12 years with us. We all miss
you very much, especially the cats, you were like a mum to them. Be good, don’t
give granddad and Max the run around too much.
RAINBOW BRIDGE
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow
Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt
or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days
and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very
special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the
distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the
group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in
joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again
caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone
from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
